Zambia Registrar of Societies (ZM-RS)
Description
The Registrar of Societies, a department under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, registers organisations under the Societies Act Chapter 119 of the Laws of Zambia. The register covers a wide range of society types including political parties, religious groups, pressure groups, international societies, professional societies, cultural groups, sports clubs, women's and youth groups, and community service organisations such as orphanages and welfare organisations.
Organisations apply to the Registrar of Societies for registration and, upon approval, receive a Certificate of Society Registration. Registration is subject to annual renewal (payment due before 31st March each year).
Note that the Registrar of Societies is distinct from the Registrar of NGOs (under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services), which registers organisations under the Non-Governmental Organisations Act No. 16 of 2009. Registration is subject to renewal, but there is nothing to suggest that IDs are not stable through renewal except where a name change is involved.
